The Solvica BGD 502 Cross Hatch Adhesion Tester Series are widely used to evaluate the adhesion of various coatings. A high-precision machined wheel featuring 6 or 11 cutting blades with different spacings is mounted in a comfortable wooden handle.
The test is performed by making two series of crossed cuts at right angles. The resulting lattice is then brushed or cleared with adhesive tape. Depending on the coating thickness and the corresponding spacing, results can be classified according to a standard scale. The tool is durable and long-lasting, offering 8 cutting edges that can be rotated when worn.
When applied to multi-coat systems, the tester allows for the assessment of the resistance to separation between individual coating layers.
Furthermore, Solvica cross hatch testers are designed with either a standard rake-type holder (BGD 502) or a special turnable cutter holder (BGD 504), convenient for cutting coatings on curved or uneven surfaces and ensuring uniform pressure through to the substrate.
