The BGD 852 is an economical and easy-to-use machine that meets various customer requirements. It is equipped with three 20W UVA or UVB lamps as the light source. The operator can set total illumination time, temperature, and spray intervals to simulate environmental conditions that cause material degradation. The chamber can accommodate 18 standard panels (150 × 70 mm). Samples are mounted on a rotating rack to ensure uniform irradiance exposure, improving both comparability and repeatability of test results.
The ultraviolet (UV) rays of sunlight are the main factor that affect the weathering resistance of most materials. To simulate the short-wave part of sunlight, UV lamps are used. These lamps produce very little visible or infrared light. Depending on different testing requirements, various types of UV lamps are selected because each type produces different irradiance levels and wavelengths. In general, UV lamps are divided into UVA and UVB categories.
Different fluorescent UV lamps are used for specific testing purposes, for example:
Type 1: UVA-340 Lamp: Simulates the short-wave UV portion of sunlight in the wavelength range of 295–365 nm.
Type 2: UVA-351 Lamp: Simulates UV light that has passed through window glass. It is ideal for testing material aging in indoor environments.
Type 3: UVB-313 Lamp: Emits stronger short-wave UV light than that found naturally on Earth, which accelerates the material aging process. However, this lamp may cause unrealistic damage and is mainly used for quality control, research and development, and testing highly weather-resistant materials.
Standards
Please note that this test chamber is intended for reference testing only; however, it provides reliable and consistent results in an economical way.
